Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) is a statutory body which was established in1964 by an Act of Parliament, MHC Act Chapter 32:02 of the Laws of Malawi. The Corporation is wholly owned by the Government and draws its mandate from the MHC Act as amended under Government Notice 27of 2016. The Act empowers the Corporation to construct houses, develop plots and maintain existing houses and plots. It is also within the Corporation's mandate to develop buildings other than dwelling houses as well as dispose any structure which it has either built or procured. More importantly, the amendment of the MHC Act in 2016 empowered the Corporation to operate as a commercial entity.
It is through the amendment of the act that has seen the Corporation diversifying its service portfolio. The purpose is to turn around the Corporation into a profitable, financially sound and a consistently growing entity

The Corporation has recently started providing a total housing solution to the general public. It has purchased block making machines that are now operational in Ngumbe, Blantyre. It has also revamped carpentry workshops and purchased new carpentry machines at Southern Region workshop in Blantyre and Northern Region in Mzuzu
